Philosophy / Mission

Our philosophy is centered on a key concept: Each student is viewed as unique and gifted by God for a special purpose. This belief is woven into everything we do here at Neighborhood Christian Preschool. Our team is dedicated to empowering our young learners to explore and discover their own individual gifts and talents in a nurturing, faithful environment.

Our programs focus on a holistic approach to learning. All the domains of development and learning—physical, social and emotional, and cognitive—are important and interrelated. NCP recognizes that “children’s development and learning in one domain influence and are influenced by what takes place in other domains” (NAEYC, 2014).

Our History

Clifford E. Daugherty founded Agape Schools Inc. in 1981 to provide quality early childhood Christian education and care. A decade later he felt God’s call to expand. He and his wife, Kris Daugherty, grew the ministry of Agape Schools and opened the doors of Neighborhood Christian Preschool.

The legacy of providing quality early childhood education and care that fosters a love for God, each other, and learning continues as we pave a path for additional schools in the future.

Our Programs

Play is the best way to learn!

At Neighborhood Christian Preschool, we believe that meaningful learning happens through joyful play. Our classrooms are designed with purpose—divided into thoughtfully curated spaces like the home center, science table, block area, water play, reading nook, and more. Each area invites children to explore, imagine, and discover at their own pace.

Our nurturing teachers guide children as they play, helping them develop essential social, emotional, and early academic skills in a safe, faith-filled environment.

“Even though it seems like they are just playing, they are learning valuable skills, including important social skills and cooperation with others, learning about signs (as most items are labeled), and early math.”
Jenifer Wana, author of “How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child”

Through a balance of structured curriculum, Bible lessons, enrichment activities, and open-ended play, children at NCP grow in creativity, confidence, and character—laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Neighborhood Christian Preschool offers programs to children ages six weeks to five years of age or about to enter first grade. Our programs include:

  • Infant 1 ~ newborn - walking

  • Infant 2 ~ walking - 18 months

  • Infant 3 ~ 18 months - 24 months

  • Preschool 1 and 2 ~ 2 years - 3 years

  • Transitional Kindergarten ~ 4 years - 5 years

At Neighborhood Christian Preschool, our environment is designed to support the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. With integrated indoor and outdoor spaces, children enjoy a variety of surroundings that change with themes throughout the year, keeping their days fresh, engaging, and full of discovery.

We are proud to offer a safe, stimulating place to play, learn, and grow—where worship, prayer, and loving guidance are woven into daily life. Everything we do points back to our mission: helping children know and understand the love of Jesus Christ.

Chapel

At Neighborhood Christian Preschool, every child is seen as wonderfully made and deeply loved by God. We celebrate each child’s unique gifts and nurture their sense of worth—both in the eyes of our heavenly Father and within our caring school community.

Children at NCP are taught to respect themselves and others, and to share the love of Christ in their everyday actions. Through our weekly Chapel times, students experience joyful worship and explore God’s Word through age-appropriate Bible stories that help them understand Jesus’s love in a way that speaks to their hearts. Accreditations and Partnerships

NCP has developed a partnership with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to provide the best curriculum and care for your child.

We have also partnered with San Jose City College for accreditation of programs, teaching, and training of our staff at the highest national level.

Valley Christian Schools Partnership

NCP was one of the first preschools to be recognized as an Exemplary Partner with Valley Christian schools. We stand with their mission and value their partnership. Valley Christian Schools’ mission is to provide a nurturing environment offering quality education supported by a strong foundation of Christian values in partnership with parents, equipping students to become leaders to serve God, serve their families, and positively impact their communities and the world.

As a member of Valley Christian Schools, our students are encouraged to work together to thoughtfully tackle complex ideas, seek truth, and apply wisdom to their daily lives. Teachers meet learners at their individual level of understanding, providing instruction at a pace at which all students can succeed to their highest potential. VCS instructs students under the delegated authority of their parents in harmony with their various local congregations.
