Transitional Kindergarten
4 YRS. - 4.5 YRS.
At Neighborhood Christian Preschool, our Transitional Kindergarten program is guided by the heart of our school’s motto: “Hugs, Hurdles, and Happy Hearts.”
We use the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, which offers a multisensory approach to early learning—engaging children through visual, tactile, auditory, and kinesthetic activities. Students explore a variety of classroom centers, including math and science, art, writing, library, blocks, and dramatic play.
Our teachers are deeply committed to helping every child know they are loved by Jesus. Through daily prayer, scripture reading, and spiritual conversations, students grow in their understanding of God’s love and how to live it out with others. In this stage, we nurture growing independence in a supportive, loving environment. Children are encouraged to solve problems together, share their ideas, and build stronger relationships with their peers. These everyday experiences help foster social skills, teamwork, and confidence.
To support emotional growth, each classroom includes a special “cool-down spot”—a safe and calming space where children can process big emotions. With gentle guidance from their teachers, students learn how to self-regulate, reflect, and return to the group feeling seen and supported.
A typical day in Transitional Kindergarten begins with outdoor play—a chance to move, connect, and start the day with joy. Children then head into the classroom for prayer and worship, keeping God at the center of all we do.
After worship, students gather for group learning time followed by a healthy morning snack. The rest of the morning includes hands-on activities that build on the day’s lesson, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and curiosity.
More outdoor play follows before students come back inside to get ready for lunch. After lunch, children enjoy free play, choosing from a variety of toys, centers, and peer activities. The day continues with an afternoon snack and a final round of outdoor time before dismissal.
Our TK teachers are committed to creating a classroom filled with love, encouragement, and support. Open communication with families is a top priority, ensuring parents feel informed and involved in their child’s learning journey.
Please note: Children must be potty-trained to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten.
